What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file that a website stores in your browser when you
visit it. The same rules apply to equivalent technologies such as
localStorage and sessionStorage, which is what this site actually uses.
What this website uses
We do not use analytics, advertising, social network or profiling cookies. Nothing we keep in your browser is there to measure you, we do not share your visit with anyone and we do not build a profile of you.
We do keep aggregate visit statistics, but they come from our server's own access logs, not from your browser: producing them stores nothing on your device, which is why they need no consent. They are described in the privacy statement.
The site only stores four technical items, and only when they are needed:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
gk-announce-intro |
sessionStorage |
Remembers that you have already seen the animated announcement on the home page, so it is not replayed on every visit to it. | Until you close the browser tab |
gk-announce-dismissed |
localStorage |
Keeps the list of announcements you dismissed with the "×", so they are not shown to you again. | Until you clear your browser data |
gk-cookie-notice |
localStorage |
Remembers that you have dismissed this notice, so the banner is not shown again. | Until you clear your browser data |
gk-lang |
localStorage |
Remembers the language you picked in the header, so that automatic detection does not send you to a different one. Only written when you actually click a language. | Until you clear your browser data |
All of them are strictly necessary for the interface to behave as expected and are exempt from consent under article 22.2 of Law 34/2002 (LSSI-CE). Nothing is sent to a server: they never leave your browser.
Language detection. When you open a page in English, the site reads the
language your browser announces (navigator.languages, the setting you
chose in the browser itself) and, if it is one of the languages this site
speaks, takes you to that version. That reading stores nothing and is not
sent anywhere. As soon as you pick a language by hand, your choice is
stored in gk-lang and takes precedence from then on.
Third-party services
The typefaces used on this website (Inter and JetBrains Mono) are served by
Google Fonts. Loading them means your browser makes a request to
fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, and therefore your IP
address becomes known to Google. Google states that the Fonts API does not
set cookies. See the
Google privacy policy for details.
Apart from that, this website embeds no videos, maps, social widgets or any other third-party content.
How to control or delete this data
You can delete or block this storage at any time from your browser's
settings, usually under Privacy or Clear browsing data. Deleting the
gk-cookie-notice entry simply makes this notice appear again. Blocking
storage entirely does not break the site: it will just replay the home page
announcement and keep showing the notice.
Changes to this notice
If we ever add a service that does require consent — analytics, for example — we will update this page and ask for your consent before activating it.
For anything else, see our privacy statement or write to m.lopez@gliderkeeper.com.
